Whether you're installing your wallpaper yourself or working with a professional installer, a little preparation goes a long way! We've gathered some helpful tips to make the process as smooth as possible and help you achieve a beautiful finished result.
Before You Begin | All Wallpaper Types
- Prepare your walls. Make sure your walls are clean, dry, and free of dust, debris, or peeling paint. We highly recommend installing on smooth wall surfaces. Light texture may show through the wallpaper and affect adhesion. If you're unsure about your wall texture, we recommend testing a sample before installation.
- Allow fresh paint to fully cure. We recommend waiting at least 2–4 weeks after painting before installing wallpaper, depending on your paint manufacturer's curing recommendations.
- Inspect your panels. Before installing, carefully inspect your wallpaper for any imperfections, damage, or printing concerns. Lay out your panels to check the pattern and numbering. If something doesn't look quite right, please reach out before beginning installation.
- Panel order matters! Each panel is numbered and labeled TOP and BOTTOM. Panels MUST be installed in numerical order, from LEFT to RIGHT, to ensure the pattern aligns correctly. For example: 1 of 8, 2 of 8, 3 of 8, and so on.
- Choose your starting point. If wallpapering more than one wall, we recommend beginning in a less noticeable area, such as behind a door, so any final pattern transitions are less visible.
- Your first panel is the most important! Walls, corners, and ceilings are rarely perfectly straight. Use a laser level (or a standard level and light pencil line) to establish a straight vertical guide. When beginning at a corner, we recommend allowing a small amount of your first panel to wrap around the corner while keeping the right edge aligned with your level line.
- Leave a little extra. Allow a small amount of excess wallpaper at the ceiling for adjustments and trimming.
- Use a sharp blade. A straight edge and sharp razor blade will help create clean cuts. Keep several extra blades on hand and change them often throughout your installation.
A little reminder: Always review the installation instructions included with your wallpaper before beginning. Taking your time with that very first panel will make the rest of your installation so much easier!
Before ordering your wallpaper, take a few moments to measure each wall. These simple steps will help you determine exactly how many panels you'll need.
Step 1: Measure Each Wall
Using a tape measure, record the full width and height of EACH wall in inches.
- Width: Measure from corner to corner. If your measurement includes a fraction (for example, 51.5"), round up to the next whole inch (52").
- Height: Measure from the floor (not the top of the baseboard) to the ceiling.
- Windows & Doors: Don't subtract or measure around windows and doors! Measure the full width and height of the wall as if they weren't there. You'll trim around these areas during installation.
Step 2: Calculate Your Panels
Ali Anni wallpaper panels are 19 inches wide and available in heights from 2 to 18 feet, in 2-foot increments.
For Width:
Divide each wall's width (in inches) by 19. Always round UP to the next whole number.
For Height:
Measure from the floor (not the baseboard) to the ceiling. Divide your measurement by 12 to convert it to feet, then round UP to the next available panel height.
Wallpapering More Than One Wall?
If you're wallpapering multiple connecting walls, measure the height of each wall and use the tallest measurement to determine the panel height for your entire room.
For example:
- Wall #1: 10 feet tall
- Wall #2: 8 feet tall
- Wall #3: 8 feet tall
- Wall #4: 10 feet tall
Since the tallest walls measure 10 feet, all panels should be ordered at 10 feet tall, even for the shorter walls.
This helps maintain consistency throughout your wallpaper installation.
A Helpful Tip: Floors and ceilings aren't always perfectly level! Leaving a little extra wallpaper allows for adjustments and trimming during installation.
Each panel is 19 inches wide and comes in heights from 2 to 18 feet. You get to choose your wallpaper adventure: go for the easy-peasy Peel and Stick for a renter-friendly, damage-free update, or the classic Paste to the Wall Traditional Non-Woven option for a timeless finish.
